Faculty Office of Interdisciplinary Studies Royal Roads University

Royal Roads University (RRU) invites your interest in a full-time faculty appointment at the rank of assistant or associate professor within our Office of Interdisciplinary Studies, Faculty of Social and Applied Sciences. The successful candidate will lead the Master of Arts and Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies programs, including program administration, instruction, and applied research.

The Faculty of Social and Applied Sciences focuses on academic programming in the areas of communication and culture, education and technology, environment and sustainability, humanitarian studies, and leadership studies. Students combine courses from these areas into interdisciplinary programs.

Candidates should have a strong inter- or transdisciplinary focus in their own work and be able to teach social scientific methods and theory courses. Knowledge of both quantitative and qualitative social science methods is required.

Faculty candidates should fit well into a faculty and student body of scholar-practitioners. Royal Roads University is committed to providing a student-focused, team-oriented environment and places great value on interpersonal and intercultural communication skills.

Both degree programs focus on a student’s unique career and educational goals by designing individualized programs of study. Students complete these programs either entirely online or in a combination of online and on-campus (residency) courses. Program administration requires individual student advising, in person, by phone, and online, as well as effective liaising with other university units and participation in marketing and recruitment activities.

Due to the unique delivery format, applicants are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the program structure prior to applying by reviewing http://www.royalroads.ca/prospective-students/programs/interdisciplinary-studies.

Candidates should possess the following qualifications:

  • Doctorate in social science field(s) of inquiry thematically relevant to Royal Roads University’s Faculty of Social and Applied Sciences. Focus on interdisciplinary work preferred.
  • Active scholarly record, including peer-reviewed publications, within last 5 years
